Fulco di Verdura - Jewellery Was Never Meant to Behave
Forget discreet. Forget tasteful little diamonds arranged according to somebody else’s rules. Fulco di Verdura had other ideas.
The Sicilian aristocrat arrived in Paris with impeccable connections, an extraordinary eye and, fortunately, very little respect for convention. In 1927 he began working with Coco Chanel, eventually creating jewellery every bit as audacious as the woman wearing it. His great provocation? The Maltese Cross cuffs.
Bold, sculptural and gloriously extravagant, Verdura’s cuffs mixed gold and enamel with diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, rubies and pearls in combinations that traditional jewellers might have considered outrageous. That, of course, was part of their charm.
Chanel wore them stacked on her wrists. Jewellery suddenly became more than a demonstration of wealth. It had character. Colour. Humour. And a considerable amount of attitude.
Verdura treated gemstones rather like a painter treated pigment. Precious stones didn't need to match. Diamonds could happily sit beside great splashes of colour. And a bracelet was allowed to be noticed from across the room.
After leaving Europe for America, Verdura opened his New York salon in 1939 and attracted precisely the clientele one might imagine: society, Hollywood and people for whom ordinary jewellery was simply too ordinary. Today, original Verdura pieces are fiercely sought after, with his great statement cuffs among the most recognisable designs of twentieth-century jewellery.
Nearly a century later, put on a Verdura cuff and there is still absolutely no chance of going unnoticed.
Natural Tanzanite & Orange Sapphire Ring in 14ct Pink Gold
A spectacular collision of colour, rarity and unapologetic glamour.
At the heart of this extraordinary ring sits an impressive natural tanzanite of approximately 16.48 carats. Its deep blue-violet tones have the mesmerising quality for which tanzanite is so admired - shifting subtly with the light and giving the substantial centre stone remarkable depth and presence. Surrounding the tanzanite is a vivid halo of natural orange sapphires totalling approximately 2.14 carats. Their warm, fiery colour creates a striking contrast against the cool intensity of the tanzanite: blue and orange, dramatic opposites brought together beautifully.
The setting is crafted in 14-carat pink gold, adding another layer of warmth to the composition. Rather than competing with the gemstones, the softly rosy gold complements the orange sapphires and makes the blue-violet centre stone appear even richer.
The ring has a total weight of 8.12 grams and is hallmarked. It is presented in UK size O / European size 56 / US size 7.5.

19th-Century Gouache Miniature of Emperor Napoleon
An intriguing 19th-century gouache miniature by J. Leroy depicting Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in full military splendour, complete with decorations, epaulettes and his unmistakable imperial stare. The finely painted portrait sits within a magnificent period Bakelite-style frame, its rich amber and mottled tones giving the piece almost as much character as Napoleon himself.
Was it commissioned by an admirer, carried as a private keepsake - or perhaps hidden in the closet of his particularly devoted female lover Joséphine de Beauharnais ?
We will probably never know. And that is precisely the charm. A wonderfully decorative little piece of Napoleonic history, combining military grandeur, romantic mystery and an exceptional early resin frame.

A dragon carrying a palace through time. This extraordinary white porcelain dragon boat transforms traditional Chinese symbolism into something unexpectedly sculptural and contemporary. With vintage luxury, however, age occasionally leaves its mark. Certain models — despite being beautifully made from exceptional materials — are known to develop deterioration or flaking of their interior lining over time. Where necessary, we have these interiors professionally cleaned, restored or replaced so that the bag can once again be enjoyed and used as intended.
In very rare cases, an original serial-number or date-code tab may not be able to be retained or reattached during this restoration process. This is unusual and, where applicable, will be disclosed in the individual item description.
Such professional restoration does not change the authenticity of the handbag. The bag remains an authentic vintage piece; the restoration simply ensures that it is presented in the best possible and usable condition for its next chapter.

We source our fine jewellery exclusively from established and highly regarded fine jewellery dealers and auction houses around the world, choosing pieces for their craftsmanship, materials, character and individuality.
Where available, our jewellery is accompanied by its underlying certificate, gemmological report or other relevant documentation, providing additional information about precious metals, gemstones, carat weights and other characteristics. The majority of our pieces are acquired with such supporting documentation.
Particularly with vintage and antique jewellery, however, original certificates may not always exist or may have been lost over the decades. In these cases, we carefully assess the information available to us and describe each piece as accurately and transparently as possible.
Above all, we buy jewellery that we would be delighted to own ourselves - beautifully made pieces with character, history and a quality that deserves another generation of appreciation.
